A SONG OF PATIENCE
You probably know this saying: "Everything worth it takes time." Not to brag but I am one of the most patient people that I know. I like to believe that the universe is your best ally and will always provide you not always what you want but surely what you deserve. It's just a matter of time.
I remember being a very difficult child to feed, being extremely picky. A small meal could easily take over an hour to finish. My mother had a nice strategy that worked well. She used to sing while feeding me. And each time I opened my mouth to sing along, she would give me a spoonful. And every single time I would fall for it.
She didn't demand I eat. She didn't force the spoon in. She found a way to make me want to cooperate. And it worked better than any amount of pushing ever could. Now, years later, I'm the one feeding my kids. Trust me they are nowhere as difficult as I was but sometimes, they remind me of the good old days. I don’t sing to them 😅. But I try to be very creative when negotiating with them.
I understand what my mom was doing. She wasn't battling me. She was earning my cooperation. She was patient. She understood that forcing creates resistance, but earning trust creates a smooth flow.
All this has taught me valuable skills that can be used in my personal and professional life. Whether you're raising a child, leading a team, negotiating with someone, or just trying to get through a difficult conversation patience and understanding work. Pressure and tactics don't.
The people who get what they want in life aren't necessarily the ones pushing hardest. They're the ones who understand that cooperation is earned, not demanded and that patience is key.
Thank you, Mom. For teaching me patience.
