Why?

by Joseph "Matt" Mathurin

It's been a slow week for the business. My wife and I spent a lot of time this week home shopping. We'd find something that felt right, the right space, the right neighborhood, the kind of place where you'd want to raise a family. Then we'd see the price tag and realize we're not there yet. That's the feeling right now. You know what you want, you're moving toward it, but the gap between where you are and where you're trying to go is still real. And of all people, I get it. I understand the frustration that every person feels when they're trying to buy a home. It's not just about the money. It's about the waiting, about looking at something you want and knowing you have to keep building toward it.

That question kept coming back this week: why keep going? And I didn't have a perfect answer for it. Just the feeling that stopping isn't really an option.

Here's what I've figured out: momentum isn't something that arrives when conditions are perfect. It's what happens when you keep moving even when things are quiet. We're not waiting for a sign that it's time to push forward. We're just pushing forward. There's a difference. One requires certainty. The other just requires us to decide that standing still is not the option.

I think that's the real lesson from a slow week. Not that slow weeks are necessarily a bad thing, they're just part of the rhythm. The thing that matters is what you do when the momentum isn't obvious, when the results are not there yet. Do you step back? Or do you keep building?

I'm curious what you do in those moments. When you don't feel like doing nothing, but the path forward isn't crystal clear: what keeps you going? I'd genuinely like to know.

Slow weeks make you honest about why you're really doing this. That's not a bad thing.

Take care,

Matt
